About Spanish Class
Your child will receive Spanish instruction once every six days for forty minutes. The majority of my class will be conducted in Spanish. My goal is to expose students to the Spanish language through the use of as many of the senses as possible (speaking, listening, and writing, for example) to create a well-rounded understanding of the language that will thoroughly prepare them to study a foreign language in middle school and beyond. There will be an emphasis on developing vocabulary and knowledge of key phrases in the Spanish language along with learning to appreciate cultural differences between our culture and those of Spanish-speaking countries around the world.
During class time, students will have the opportunity to learn as a whole class, work with partners, and as individuals with the teacher. I will be incorporating role-playing through story telling, culture through arts and crafts, and music through songs, dance, chants and rhythms. Through their exposure to a world language, students will develop the necessary skills to communicate in Spanish and to respect other cultures in our world.
Below are some topics that will be covered in this year’s kindergarten through fifth grade curriculum.
